BILLERICA, Mass., Aug. 17 /PRNewswire/ -- Peritus Software Services, Inc.
(Nasdaq: PTUS), a leading provider of solutions for software maintenance,
today announced the promotion of Allen K. Deary to president and chief
executive officer. Deary succeeds Douglas A. Catalano, who has decided to
step down for personal reasons, including a desire to spend more time with his
family. Mr. Catalano will remain a director of the company.

guidance as a member of our board."
Mr. Deary, a co-founder of the company, has been chief financial officer
of Peritus since 1991. Responsible for the company's day to day operations,
Deary helped the company through its IPO in 1997, and was instrumental in the
hiring of the current management team. Continuing, Mr. Chan stated "As a
founding member of the company, Allen understands the fundamentals of our

talented leader and senior executive already on staff."
