Texas Tri-City Broadband Network Near Completion as Company Enters Houston
Market
HOUSTON, Aug. 17 /PRNewswire/ -- Electric Lightwave Inc. (Nasdaq: ELIX), a
leading integrated communications provider, today announced the arrival of its
data and Internet access services to Houston businesses. The company also
appoints John Abraham as regional general manager of Electric Lightwave's
Texas and Southwest operations.
Earlier this year, the company began offering data and Internet access
services to Dallas businesses. As a result, by installing a data point of
presence (POP) in Houston, Electric Lightwave is now closer to completing its
tri-city broadband network in Texas. Once completed, the company's broadband
network will run between Dallas, Houston and Austin.
"As soon as our Austin POP rolls out in September, we'll have the Texas
broadband ring up and running," said Abraham. "This is especially significant
as it will allow us to provide scaleable, high-speed Internet access and data
transmission for our Texas businesses. Not only that, Electric Lightwave is
now one step closer toward completion of our national footprint."
Electric Lightwave's expansion into Houston marks the twelfth new city the
company has entered since its decision in 1998 to provide services nationwide.
In addition, Electric Lightwave was recently named one of the top five
Internet backbone providers in the nation by Boardwatch Magazine.
Electric Lightwave's current offices include Atlanta, Chicago, Cleveland,
Dallas, Denver, Las Vegas, Los Angeles, New York, Philadelphia, San Diego,
San Francisco, San Jose and Washington D.C. The company also owns and operates
MANs (Metro-Area Networks) in Seattle, Spokane, Wash., Portland, Ore.,
Sacramento, Calif., Phoenix, Salt Lake City and Boise, Idaho.
Abraham is responsible for increasing Electric Lightwave's retail customer
base in the Texas market via data and Internet access services. These services
include frame relay, point-to-point private lines, dedicated Internet access,
ATM (Asynchronous Transfer Mode), TLS (Transparent LAN Service), RSVP (Remote
Systems Virtual Portal), an Internet dial-up service and RSVP+, an ISP in a
box product.
Most recently, Abraham and his sales team were responsible for landing the
$8 million strategic alliance with Comercis, a Dallas-based Web services
company.
Abraham comes to Electric Lightwave from AT&T Local Services where he was
sales director. There he managed retail sales in local switched, private line
and data services. Prior to AT&T, Abraham was national account manager for the
Teleport Communications Group where he developed new business totaling more
than $15 million in 1997. He also ranked as one of the top three national
account managers at Teleport.
