Sensitive data can be found on local computer hard drives in organizations
ranging from small businesses to global health-care agencies. A new service
from Gateway, Inc., however, prevents this valuable information from
accidentally falling into the wrong hands when PC hard drives are replaced
under standard warranty agreements.
Launching today, Gateway's "Keep Your Hard Drive" Service Plan helps
customers retain their old hard drives in the event that a new drive is
installed under warranty. Previously, customers would either return the old
drives to the manufacturer or purchase them back at significant cost.
Gateway customers, who include many small- and medium-sized businesses,
state and federal government agencies and educational institutions, benefit
from the new service by being able to take complete control over sensitive
data, enhance HIPPA compliance and cut overall IT expenses. Pricing for the
plan starts at $30 per drive for three years of coverage, with upgrades of up
to five years available.
"In this age of HIPPA compliance and corporate espionage, it's becoming
increasingly important for organizations to protect sensitive data," said Tim
Meyer, vice president of professional services for Gateway. "Gateway's 'Keep
Your Hard Drive' Service Plan is an inexpensive solution for organizations who
want to avoid important information from walking out the front door."
Gateway's "Keep Your Hard Drive" Service Plan is available on current
Gateway notebooks and E-Series business desktops. Customers can purchase the
service over the phone, on Gateway's website, through their direct sales
representatives or via a Gateway ProNet(SM) channel partner.
The offering is a key component of Gateway's broader Technology LifeCycle
Services platform, which provides businesses with the hardware, support and
related services they need through all stages of their technology's lifespan.
