Record Attendance, Broad Participation, and Energetic Exhibition Characterize GOVSEC, U.S. LAW, and READY 2004

         GOVSEC, U.S. LAW, READY! Held July 28-29 in Washington, D.C.

    ALEXANDRIA, Va., Aug. 17 /PRNewswire/ -- National Trade Productions,

characterized these collocated events held July 28-29, 2004.
    Thousands of physical and cyber security professionals, joined by their
counterparts in the law enforcement and emergency response disciplines,
attended the two-day conferences and expositions held at the Washington
Convention Center, Washington, D.C.  Conference attendees participated in
daily keynote presentations, breakfast plenary sessions, and luncheon
presentations that featured recognized leaders in the security, law
enforcement, and emergency management arenas.
    Dr. David Kay, former Special Advisor on Iraqi Weapons of Mass Destruction
to the Director of Central Intelligence, gave the opening keynote address on
Wednesday, July 28 to a capacity crowd.  His remarks focused on "The New
Threats to U.S. Security: Can We Meet Them?"  The U.S. Department of Homeland
Security's (DHS) Under Secretary for Border and Transportation Security, Asa
Hutchinson presented the keynote address on Thursday July 29, where he
discussed terrorist threats and mitigation strategies, as well as the current
National Response Plan and National Incident Management System.
    Former Virginia Governor Jim Gilmore and the Honorable John Hager, former
Assistant to Governor Mark Warner for Commonwealth Preparedness, spoke to
conference attendees during plenary sessions on Wednesday and Thursday
mornings respectively.  In addition, attendees were invited to participate in
more than fifty educational sessions addressing various aspects of government
security, law enforcement, and issues for the first responder community.
    Held in tandem with the conferences, the GOVSEC, U.S. LAW, and READY!
Expositions included more than 500 exhibitors showcasing solutions for access
control, biometrics, surveillance, biological and chemical agent detection,
personal protection devices, mobile command centers, canine training and
handling equipment, contingency planning, disaster recovery, EMS equipment and
hundreds more.
