AUBURN HILLS, Mich., Aug. 17 /PRNewswire/ -- Continental Automotive
Systems -- known for its electronic vehicle technology that improves
vehicle safety and education efforts to increase consumer awareness of
vehicle safety equipment -- is supporting local charity Jack's Place for
Autism's dream to build a center for children and families with autism, at
the 2007 Dream Cruise.
Continental is hosting a Dream Cruise party in downtown Birmingham for
its customers that will showcase the company's extensive product line to
improve the safety, comfort and performance of vehicles. Parked outside and
open to the public will be Continental's popular Safely There mobile
exhibit. The Safely There exhibit is on a nationwide tour to raise consumer
awareness of the benefits and availability of vehicle safety technology for
today's and tomorrow's dream machines. As part of the Safely There exhibit
located on Old Woodward south of Maple Road, Continental has donated space
to Jack's Place for Autism to raise awareness and funds for programs to
help children and families deal with the often misunderstood disease. To
get things started, Continental has also made a donation to Jack's Place
for Autism.
"Continental makes safety devices for cars and this company has a big
heart and has warmly welcomed Jack's Place to set up a booth at its
downtown Birmingham location," said Lisa Price, Co-Founder of the charity.
"We are extremely grateful for their generosity and commitment to making us
all safer through their innovative technologies and this support for
autism," said Price.
"As Continental is working hard to improve the quality of individual
mobility in our community, Jack's Place is working to make our community a
better place to live for those touched by this disease. Cruisers will have
the opportunity to experience some of the life-saving technologies
available on cars today and help others in our community by making a
donation to a great charity," said Jim Gill, director, Public Relations for
Continental Automotive Systems North America. "We are happy to make this
small gesture to generate awareness of Autism and to help make a connection
to children and families struggling to cope with this issue."
Jack's Place for Autism volunteers will be offering hand made "Dream
Pies" as well as bottled water, shirts, jewelry and other offerings to
raise funds to build a treatment facility for children and to teach
families how to cope with autism.
"We are absolutely delighted to showcase Jack's Place for Autism and
offer quality products that will make people feel great by donating to this
important cause," Price said. "Having a physical center for Autism
education and support is a dream that will one day soon come true. We are
excited to be a part of the Dream Cruise."
Price, who is married to Detroit Tiger's announcer Jim Price, has a son
with autism, for whom the charity is named, and has led the efforts for
education and support, and "quality of life" programming for children with
autism and to help families cope with the disease.
Continental's Safely There mobile exhibit is on a national road tour
delivering messages on auto safety and educating consumers in intelligent
safety equipment available today and in the future that helps reduce
crashes, fatalities and injuries on our nation's roads. Last year's tour
visited 15 states and the nation's capitol, traveled approximately 12,500
miles and delivered safety messages to more than 2.9 million people. The
hands-on vehicle safety education exhibit contains a Disney-like 4-D movie
theater simulator, simulated crashes with and without stability control, an
interactive safety quiz and learning kiosks.
