LAS VEGAS, Aug. 18 /PRNewswire/ -- Electric Lightwave Inc. (Nasdaq: ELIX),
one of the nation's leading integrated communications providers today
announced the opening of their Las Vegas sales office and the deployment of
high-speed data and Internet access services to Clark County-area businesses.
Initially, the company will offer data services, including frame relay,
Remote NetConnect (a remote network dialup service), ATM (Asynchronous
Transfer Mode) and Transparent LAN (Local Area Network) Services.
"Our high-speed network is specifically designed to meet the local
business community's current and future demand for more bandwidth," said Roy
Addington, Electric Lightwave's Las Vegas general manager. "As businesses

to utilize one source for all our customers' data and emerging transmission
needs."
Electric Lightwave has been providing limited telecommunications services,
including videoconferencing and enhanced services, in Nevada since
January 1995 through its Southwest FiberNet connection to Phoenix. Southwest
FiberNet is a long-haul, fiber optic network connecting Las Vegas and Phoenix.
Additional long-haul routes are under construction that will interconnect Las
Vegas with Los Angeles, Salt Lake City, Boise, Idaho and Portland, Ore.
Electric Lightwave also announced it expects to complete construction of a
full-service switching facility in Las Vegas to provide businesses with local
and long distance service in the first half of 1999.
"Once construction of our switching facility is complete, we'll be able to
provide Las Vegas businesses everything from local and long distance telephone
service to ISDN connection to ATM," said Addington.
In addition to Las Vegas, the company's national expansion includes plans
to offer data and Internet access services in a number of major markets by the
end of 1998. Electric Lightwave boasts one of the top national Internet
