Companies Launch Reseller Recruitment, Training and Certification Program For
UnixWare NonStop Clusters
SCO FORUM98, SANTA CRUZ, Calif., Aug. 18 /PRNewswire/ - SCO
(Nasdaq: SCOC) and Compaq (NYSE: CPQ) today announced a new reseller
recruitment, training and certification program to bring UnixWare NonStop(R)
Clusters to the volume enterprise market. The jointly funded program, which
will be rolled out this quarter in North America and Europe and will be
expanded to other regions later this year, aims to certify current SCO and
Compaq VARs and distributors to sell UnixWare NonStop Clusters on Compaq
servers.
"We saw a huge opportunity for UnixWare NonStop Clusters that required a
bold take-to-market plan," said Ray Anderson, SCO's senior vice president,
Marketing. "We know the technology is superior to other clustering solutions
on Intel. Together with Compaq, we want to expand our marketing efforts, and
aggressively pursue broader markets with this product."
"The proliferation of the Internet and Internet commerce has created
insatiable demand in virtually every industry for highly scalable
high-availability computing platforms," said John T. Rose, Senior Vice
President and Group General Manager, Enterprise Computing Group, Compaq
Computer Corporation. "Initially targeted at telecommunications companies,
NonStop Clusters excels in the areas of scalability, availability, and
manageability, and, combined with Compaq ProLiant servers, offers customers
unbeatable value. Therefore, Compaq and SCO are leveraging the strong channel
relationships of the two companies to make UnixWare NonStop Clusters on Compaq
ProLiant servers available to all industries."
SCO and Compaq are building a qualified channel infrastructure to drive
sales of UnixWare NonStop Clusters into the broader enterprise market where
SCO is already experiencing success with UnixWare 7. This new program brings
UnixWare NonStop Clusters to other environments where availability,
reliability and scalability are critical, namely clustered ERP application
servers, ISP Web and mail servers, and database and decision support servers.
Recruit, Train, Certify
Under the program, the companies will recruit VARs and distributors and
qualify them to become certified resellers of UnixWare NonStop Clusters. All
VARs and distributors interested in the program must be currently certified as
both a SCO and Compaq reseller. Resellers then receive extensive training in
product installation, service and support.
"We are pleased that SCO and Compaq have decided to sell UnixWare NonStop
Clusters through the distribution channel," said David Ochser, director of
UNIX marketing at Ingram Micro. "We look forward to driving that initiative
and delivering this easy-to-manage, cost-effective solution to meet the needs
of our enterprise resellers."
About UnixWare NonStop Clusters
UnixWare NonStop Clusters is a highly scalable clustered operating
environment that enables a group of servers to operate as a single, robust
computing resource. Its single system image (SSI) capability allows a cluster
of servers to appear as if it were one system, greatly improving manageability
by allowing transparent access to all cluster resources. SSI also
significantly reduces downtime as applications are automatically migrated
among nodes, without disruption, if a node failure occurs. NonStop Clusters
offers the only SSI clustering solution for Intel processor-based servers and
delivers unrivaled availability and scalability at about half the price of
comparable high-availability systems. Please see http://www.sco.com/unixware
for more information on UnixWare NonStop Clusters.
Products bearing the NonStop brand must pass rigorous high-availability
testing by Compaq. Compaq's NonStop Clusters technology has been subjected to
testing to ensure that it meets the requirements of demanding
telecommunications customers.
