Starmet Corporation Announces Election of Four New Board of Director Members

    CONCORD, Mass., Aug. 18 /PRNewswire/ -- Starmet Corporation (Nasdaq: STMT)
a Concord, Massachusetts based manufacturer of specialized metal products,
today announced the election of four new Board of Director members.  In May
1999 shareholders voted to elect Mr. Randel E. Vataha to serve on the Board of
Directors along with Mr. George J. Matthews, Chairman since 1972, Mr. Robert
E. Quinn, President since 1994, Dr. Kenneth A. Smith, Director since 1985 and
Mr. Frank H. Brenton, Director since 1986.  Subsequently, Mr. Matthew Brady,
Mr. Gerald R. Hoolahan, and Mr. Brian B. Sand were elected to fill vacancies
created by the enlargement of the Board of Directors by vote of the Directors.
    Mr. Matthew Brady is currently the President of Berry Hill Consulting, a
benefits and insurance consulting firm on Long Island, NY.  Mr. Brady is a
graduate of the New York Institute of Technology and is very active in many
charitable organizations.  Mr. Brady is has been a shareholder of Starmet
since 1993.
    Mr. Gerald R. Hoolahan has specialized in corporate reengineering,
restructures and reorganizations for financial institutions, the U.S. District
Court and private industry.  He is accomplished in domestic and international
enterprises engaged in manufacturing, financial services, automotive, energy,
transportation and steel products.  Educated as an engineer at Manhattan
College and Yale University, he is as well as graduate of Harvard Business
School and the director of almost a dozen companies.
    Mr. Brian B. Sand is the former President of Kalsand Products, Inc.
(1992-1994).  He is currently the President of KABZ Co., a Long Island based
supplier of specialty products for the retail trade. He has served on the
board of several not for profit charitable organizations since 1993, and has
been a shareholder of Starmet since 1994.
    Mr. Randel E. Vataha is President and co-founder of Game Plan LLC, a
Boston investment banking firm partially owned by BankBoston.  Game Plan
provides consulting and investment banking services to the sports and
entertainment industry.  Previously, he was the President of Global View
Associates, an investment banking and consulting firm and CEO of Bob Woolf
Associates, Inc.  A graduate of Stanford University, Mr. Vataha has been
active in senior management and consulting positions in small to medium size
businesses for the past seven years.
