announced that its board of directors has elected Ronald J. Ciancio vice
president, general counsel and secretary.
Mr. Ciancio, 59, joined GATX in 1981 as a senior attorney, and
subsequently he was promoted to associate general counsel. In June of this
year, he was elected vice president and corporate counsel.
Ronald H. Zech, chairman and CEO of GATX stated, "Ron Ciancio has been
instrumental in many important and complex transactions for GATX over the
years. He brings extensive knowledge of the company, a tremendous work ethic
and significant legal expertise to his new position. We are very fortunate to
have someone with Ron's demonstrated capabilities and dedication ready to
assume this critical role."

South Bend, in 1963. He earned his JD in 1966 from the Northwestern
University School of Law and his Masters in Management from Northwestern

Mr. Ciancio is succeeding David B. Anderson, who has announced his
decision to leave GATX, effective August 31, 2000. Mr. Zech continued, "David
Anderson has served GATX well since joining in 1995 as vice president
