White Castle Crowns National Crave Time Cook Off Winner

COLUMBUS, OH USA
    COLUMBUS, Ohio, Aug. 18 /PRNewswire/ -- The winner of the 2005 Crave Time
Cook Off has been crowned. Karen Burke of Wright, Kentucky won the annual
White Castle recipe contest with her creative concoction, "Morning Crave."

    "Morning Crave" beat out all the entries received from this year's
competition from across the country.  The recipes were judged on the best use
of 10 White Castle hamburgers, originality and taste. Karen will receive a
case of 30 hamburgers a week for the next year for her creative use of the
product.  That's a lot of hamburgers, over 1,500 to be exact!  Here's her
winning recipe:

     Morning Crave
     Submitted by Karen Burke

     10 White Castles
     2 C shredded cheddar cheese
     10 eggs
     1 T chopped onion
     Dash of pepper
     1 t salt
     1/2-1 lb. crumbled bacon or sausage
     4 C milk
     1/2 t dried mustard
     1 T parsley flakes

    Line bottom of greased 9 X 13 casserole dish with yummy White Castles.
Sprinkle cheese over sandwiches.
    Beat eggs, add milk and all ingredients except bacon or sausage.  Pour egg
mixture over cheese and sprinkle bacon or sausage on top.
    Cover with foil and refrigerate overnight.  Bake uncovered at 325 degrees
for one hour.
    Let sit before serving.

    Nicole Neumann of Sterling Heights, Michigan came in second with her
recipe, Nicole's Mexi-Castle 8-Layer Dip with Bun Chips. Third place was
earned with Castle con Queso Dip or Casserole submitted by Robert Morgan of
Corydon, Indiana.
    Finishing out the top ten recipes are White Castle Portabella from Kevin
Baumann, St. Louis, MO; Swedish Castles from Sue Litzinger of Westerville, OH;
Cheesy Broccoli CASTLE Casserole from Jennie Garcia of Steger, IL; White
Castle Lasagna from Lance Bottari of Union, NJ; White Castle Bread Pudding
from Timothy Janus of Avon, CT; Mike's Craveable Chili from Mike Nowlin of
Columbus, OH; and White Castle-Steak Sauce Loaf from Paula Allen of
DeMossville, KY.
    These recipes will appear in a booklet distributed free in White Castle
restaurants in time for the holidays. The booklet also will feature the famed
White Castle Turkey Stuffing Recipe.

    This year's lineup of judges included: Deane Cobler, Columbus State
Community College Professor; Doral Chenoweth, "The Grumpy Gourmet," from the
Columbus Dispatch; Lois Dowling, the 2004 Crave Time Cook Off winner from
Tacoma, WA; David Hoekstra of the Chicago Sun Times; Colleen Marshall of NBC4
Columbus, OH; Marc Silverstein from the Food Network and host of Go Ahead,
Make My Dinner on the Discovery Channel; Philip Vaughn of
http://www.columbuschefs.com; Robert Welcher of Restaurant Consultants, Inc; William
Yerkes, owner of bono-PIZZA in Kilbourne, OH; and Bill Ingram, president and
CEO of White Castle System, Inc.
    To celebrate the company's 85th anniversary in 2006, it has published its
third compilation recipe book called "By the Sackful: A Scrapbook With Recipes
from 85 Years of Craving."  The book will be sold in retail stores beginning
in mid-September.  Proceeds from the book will benefit Turkeys 4 America, Inc.
    White Castle is based in Columbus, Ohio, and operates 393 restaurants in
11 states. The company was founded in Wichita, Kansas, in 1921 and was the
first fast-food hamburger chain.
