The SEED program is a worldwide program through which Rational contributes
its leading software and training materials to faculty and students at
degree-granting institutions.
The program enables students to gain experience with Rational's software
development tools, technologies and best practices while still in the
classroom, helping decrease their learning curve when they start software
development jobs after graduating. Companies benefit by hiring graduates who
have the skills to instantly contribute to their software development
projects.
By having access to Rational's latest software, courseware and technical
content for hands-on use by students in the classroom, professors have been
able to develop a stronger, more comprehensive curriculum that has given their
students a competitive advantage in the job market.
"Rational's SEED program has empowered our faculty to incorporate Rational
Suite(R) and the Rational Unified Process(R) into a number of our courses,
providing our students with an opportunity to gain hands-on experience with
leading tools and technologies to jump-start their future endeavors," said
James C. Helm, Ph.D., P.E. Chair, Systems Engineering, School of Science and
Computer Engineering, University of Houston-Clear Lake. "Many of our students
who have benefited from the SEED program have been hired by leading companies
across a variety of industries, including aerospace and defense."
Through the SEED program, faculty and students have access to the Rational
Developer Network(SM) (http://www.rational.net/), Rational's Web site that
provides targeted software development content and skill-building resources.
This empowers SEED participants to gain knowledge and widespread visibility by
sharing research results and original papers with an extended online Rational
customer audience, as well as with other educational institutions.
Rational has long played a leadership role in the software development
community and has actively collaborated with other industry experts to advance
the practice of software development. The Rational SEED program represents
Rational's long-term commitment to extending its leadership focus to software
educators worldwide, and enables faculty and students to continually enhance
their skills by working with the most current technologies.
"Software is the essential ingredient to the growth and success of most
organizations worldwide," said Eric Schurr, chief marketing officer, Rational
Software. "Therefore, it is very important for colleges and universities to
provide their students with access to the latest technologies to foster their
software development skills. By providing these institutions with extensive
resources for teaching and learning software development, the Rational SEED
program will empower the next generation of developers, testers and analysts
to create great software."
