LAKE BUENA VISTA, Fla., Aug. 19 /PRNewswire-FirstCall/ --
Rational User Conference -- Rational Software (Nasdaq: RATL) today announced
the availability of "Use Case Modeling," a new book written by Rational's Kurt

examples of how to write use cases and build effective use case models.

Kurt Bittner, director of requirements management solutions, teamed with
Rational senior consultant Ian Spence to write the industry's first book
exploring use case modeling and writing use case descriptions in a hands-on
style.
Through the book's step-by-step approach to use case modeling, Rational is
helping to ease user adoption as this methodology becomes an increasingly
popular way for developers to identify, clarify and organize system
requirements.
"Use Case Modeling," published by Addison Wesley, incorporates the
experience of the authors and their colleagues at Rational Software who have
employed use cases as a technique for capturing and communicating software
requirements. It features a foreword written by Dr. Ivar Jacobson, Rational's
vice president of process strategy, one of the software industry's most
distinguished thought leaders and the originator of the use case modeling
approach.
"Kurt and Ian have many years of experience working with use cases, and
they both possess a deep understanding of the success that development teams
can achieve by leveraging the full power of use case modeling," said Jacobson.
"Prior to this book there has not been a hands-on guide to helping developers
ease adoption of the use case modeling approach."
"Use cases are a simple and powerful technique for capturing and
communicating requirements and have been growing in popularity. However, the
potential of use cases has remained largely untapped due to a lack of
accessible information as to how to best implement a use case modeling
approach," said Bittner. "With this book, we've sought to address the market
demand for more information by providing readers a comprehensive, yet
practical guide to identifying and writing use cases."
At the Rational User Conference 2002, Bittner and Spence will deliver a
presentation on structuring use case models, and will lead a workshop to offer
practical strategies for managing use case modeling efforts. More information
