LEXINGTON, Mass., Aug. 19 /PRNewswire/ -- Raytheon Company (NYSE: RTN)
will proceed with the DD(X) program following the announcement today by the
Government Accounting Office (GAO) that it has upheld the Navy's contract
award for DD(X) to a team led by Northrop Grumman Ship Systems. DD(X) is the
U.S. Navy's next-generation surface combatant ship.

Raytheon is a partner with Northrop Grumman on the industry team that was
selected by the Navy on April 29 for the three-year contract to design,
develop, build and conduct at-sea tests of Engineering Development Models
(EDMs) and then apply the results of the testing to a comprehensive DD(X) ship
system design. The contract is expected to total $1.36 billion over the next
three years.

As the electronic systems integrator, Raytheon's Naval & Maritime
Integrated Systems (N&MIS) business will be responsible for DD(X) systems
engineering, software development, and combat system equipment. As part of
this effort, the company will build and test a dual frequency radar suite, an
integrated solid-state communications system, a new launcher, an Integrated
Undersea Warfare Suite (IUWS), and a multi-mission Total Ship Computing
Environment (TSCE). Raytheon work will be performed in Portsmouth, R.I.;
Tewksbury, Mass.; Sudbury, Mass.; Marlboro, Mass.; Ft Wayne, Ind.; and
Fullerton, Calif.
Other companies partnering with Raytheon on systems integration include
the Boeing Company, Sun Microsystems and United Defense. Government partners
include the Naval Surface Warfare Center (NSWC) in Dahlgren, Va., and Panama
City, Fla., and the Naval Undersea Warfare Center (NUWC) in Newport, R.I.
