Cambridge Credit's GoodPayer.com Education Team Increases Financial Literacy Among College Students

Non-Profit Credit Counseling Organization Engages Incoming Freshman on
Personal Finance Basics with its 'Learn Now or Pay Later' Program

AGAWAM, Mass., Aug. 19 /PRNewswire/ -- Cambridge Credit Counseling Corp.,
a nationwide nonprofit provider of credit counseling, educational assistance
and budget planning services, today announced that as part of its expanding
GoodPayer.com educational initiatives, it is applying its 'Learn Now or Pay
Later' financial literacy program this fall at colleges and universities.
Cambridge Credit will educate incoming college freshman about how to use
credit responsibly, successfully minimize debt and effectively manage money so
that they can ultimately afford the things they want in life.
"Our 'Learn Now or Pay Later' series is aimed at increasing financial
literacy among youth using real world examples that relate to their lives
right now," said Chris Viale, acting President and CEO of Cambridge Credit.
"Far too many college students are lured by credit card companies when they
first step on to campus. Away from home and often facing their first major
financial challenges, it is important that we reach out to these young people
to teach them fundamental personal finance tools that will help them lead
financially responsible lives now and in the future."
Applying portions of its 'Learn Now or Pay Later' program, Cambridge
Credit has developed a financial literacy television series for students at
the University of Massachusetts (UMASS) Amherst and will provide financial
education during student orientation and in an undergraduate experience course
for incoming freshman at the American International College in Springfield,
Mass. The credit counseling organization will also provide copies of its
'Learn Now or Pay Later' handbook to Pikeville College in Pikeville, Ky. for
the school to distribute to new students.

Programs at specific colleges and universities include:

University of Massachusetts -- 'Learn Now or Pay Later' Television Series
Cambridge Credit's four-part 'Learn Now or Pay Later' television series
will begin airing in September on the University of Massachusetts cable

will offer tips, advice, and information for students who are unaware of the
pitfalls of debt, including segments that cover a range of topics including
credit cards, budgeting and saving, credit scores and how to plan financially
for the future.
The series will reach the 10,000 students living in residence halls, as
well as 6,700 students in family and student housing. Produced in
coordination with the Academic Instructional Media (AIMS) Video Production
Department of UMASS, the series features staff members and credit counselors
from Cambridge Credit who will advise students on ways to properly use credit
cards and avoid debt. One third of the half-hour program also includes
interviews with students on campus to gauge their understanding of credit and
the negative impact of debt.
