WEST KINGSTON, R.I., Aug. 19 /PRNewswire-FirstCall/ -- American Power
Conversion (Nasdaq: APCC) (APC) has announced that customers using older
versions of its PowerChute(R) Business Edition software must immediately
upgrade, if they have not already done so, to ensure continued availability of
servers on which the software is installed, as previously advised by APC's web
site and email communications efforts.

"Executives receiving this message are asked to communicate it throughout
their information technology organizations," said Rob Johnson, vice president
and general manager of APC's Availability Enhancement Group. "APC firmly
believes in the industry best practice of making software upgrades readily
available online as this is the best way of ensuring that customers have the
latest versions of software used in their businesses. We have made this
upgrade available for free on our web site. APC also firmly believes in
communicating with customers particularly when issues become known. APC has
made every effort to communicate with our customer base via direct email and
our web homepage at http://www.apc.com to inform them about the issue and,
more importantly, to provide guidance for how to resolve it. Several repeated
attempts have been made to reach out directly to our customer base to inform
them of this issue. While APC believes that this communication effort has
been successful with the general population of users, we have learned recently
that some customers are still unaware of this issue. This is why APC is now
issuing this press release so that we might reach more of our customers."
On July 27, 2005, a component library bundled with PowerChute(R) Business
Edition Versions 6.0.0 through Version 6.2.2 expired, rendering the software
inoperative the next time it loads. Windows Servers with the affected
versions installed may hang when the PowerChute(R) process loads at reboot
time. PowerChute Personal Edition, PowerChute Network Shutdown, PowerChute
Plus, and PowerChute Business Edition Version 7.x users are unaffected by this
issue.
Customers with the affected versions of software must immediately upgrade
to the latest version of PowerChute(R) Business Edition v7.0.4 or
PowerChute(R) Business Edition v7.0.2 (for Windows NT). Details on how to
upgrade are available at http://www.apc.com. For more background on this
required upgrade, see
