IT Pro Launches Computer Troubleshooters Franchise in Carmichael, Fair Oaks

CARMICHAEL, Calif., Aug. 20 /PRNewswire/ -- From electronic repairs for a
mass mailing company to ensuring a city's traffic signals operated
consistently to repairing the California legislature's PCs, Brad Hancock has
just about done it all. But now he's achieved his dream job of working for
himself as the owner of a Computer Troubleshooters USA franchise.
Based in Carmichael, Hancock launched his Computer Troubleshooters USA
franchise in April. The company provides a full range of computer services,
including repair, networking and upgrading -- basically whatever needs done --
at the customer's location. Hancock serves Carmichael and Fair Oaks.
Hancock loves the personal interaction that comes with working with
residents and small-business owners. After more than 20 years working for a
variety of major companies and city government, Hancock yearned for the
simpler contact of helping a homeowner facing computer frustrations.
"I like helping people with their problems as much as the repair itself,"
Hancock said. "It makes a difference in my day."
Hancock began his career in 1982 providing electronic repairs on elaborate
systems for Cabledata, a company that provided mass mailings for cable
companies. After six years he switched gears and went to work for the city of
Sacramento repairing traffic signal controllers.
He then spent two years each with Hewlett Packard and IBM in contract
capacities, during which time he repaired PCs for the state legislature.
Hancock then became the technical services manager for ATEK, a medical
software company, a position he held for 10 years before moving to Alliance
Computers, where he was the project coordinator.
Alliance Computers, like many other Sacramento-area small businesses,
relied on state contracts, which eventually dried up as the state's budget
tightened up in recent years.
Hancock was laid off, but it proved to be the turning point of his career
as he took the necessary measures to launch his Computer Troubleshooters USA
franchise.
Computer Troubleshooters USA is the ideal answer for small businesses,
which often can't afford to hire a full-time IT staff person. There were some
22.9 million small businesses in existence in the United States in 2002,
according to the U.S. Small Business Administration. And more than 85 percent
of these companies conduct business over the Internet, making it crucial that
computer systems perform optimally and connectivity is intact.
"Small companies have a vested interest in keeping their computers in
shape and maintaining their Internet connectivity," Hancock said. "They can't
afford to be down."
Hancock especially enjoys working with residential customers who need
computer services.
One of the most common needs of the residential computer user is
transferring data from an old computer to a new computer and creating a
network within the home so that more than one computer can have Internet
connectivity.
"Another common problem is with errors and the frustration that comes with
it," Hancock said, pointing to the recent MSBlast computer worm that caused
systems to constantly stop and restart.
He said often residential users aren't up to date in their virus
protection.
"The residents of Carmichael and Fair Oaks will benefit tremendously by
Brad Hancock's vast IT experience and his consistent enthusiasm," said Chip
Reaves, national director for Computer Troubleshooters USA.
