SAN DIEGO, Aug. 21 /PRNewswire/ -- Empowering business customers with
computing tools that increase business productivity, Gateway Inc. (NYSE: GTW)
today unveiled two new servers designed for growing businesses. Designed for
day-to-day business computing activities and managing business-critical
applications, the Gateway(TM) 6400 and 7400 servers are ideal solutions for a
variety of small office and departmental business applications including file
and print sharing, remote access, e-mail processing, firewall servers and
database management. Both systems deliver powerful technologies at affordable
prices, maximizing the life of the system and a company's investment.
"Gateway's new, feature-rich servers offer clients the opportunity to
expand their servers to meet future demands," said Chris Norman, director of
server marketing, Gateway Business. "Whether they require maximum system
dependability and fault-tolerance or a cost-effective solution for a
first-time network server installation, these systems offer considerable
price/performance benefits."
Gateway 6400: Advanced Server Features Provide a Cost Effective Solution
Built with ease-of-use in mind, the Gateway 6400 entry-level server is an
ideal platform for smaller businesses that don't have an in-house IT
department. The mini-tower design includes a locking chassis for enhanced
security, and is coupled with ease of serviceability through a tool-less
design. With unobstructed access to components and quick-release mechanisms,
Gateway's 6400 Server provides easy access for unassisted upgrades and
add-ons.
With its industry-leading technology and low price point of $1,599, the
Gateway 6400 offers high performance features not typically available on
entry-level servers, such as 133MHz front side bus and 64-bit PCI technology.
The 6400 includes expandability features enabling the system to be upgraded to
keep pace with growing companies' computing needs. The system features a
total of nine drive bays and comes standard with 64MB of PC133 ECC SDRAM
memory, expandable to 2GB.
Gateway 7400: Superior Uptime for Growing Server Environments
With a rich overall feature set, the 7400 is an ideal solution for
corporate branch offices or growing businesses which require dedicated
functionality. The Gateway 7400 is ideally suited to handle thousands of
secure Internet transactions as well as order processing and inventory
management, with robust, high-performance features that support critical needs
for redundancy, data integrity and security, vital to today's e-businesses.
The Gateway 7400 features a total of 12 drive bays and a standard dual
350 watt redundant hot-pluggable power supply subsystem. Redundant power
ensures that critical business server operations will keep operating in the
unlikely event of a power supply component failure. The server has been
designed into a new tool-less mid-tower with a 5U rack chassis option,
offering unprecedented ease-of-use and serviceability. The server comes
standard with 128MB of PC133 ECC SDRAM, expandable to 2GB.
An integrated, dual-channel Ultra160 SCSI controller can support options
for 9GB, 18GB or 36GB Ultra160 SCSI 10K rpm drives. These drives represent
the latest SCSI technology, offering exceptional performance for
data-intensive applications such as online transaction processing, customer
database management, large-scale spreadsheet projections and storage and
retrieval of document libraries. The server is capable of supporting up to
six hot-pluggable 36GB Ultra160 SCSI hard drives for a maximum hot-plug
storage of 216GB. Employing an optional 64-bit RAID controller and
disk-mirroring RAID technology in the 7400 server creates a fault-tolerant
system that maximizes uptime and helps protect valuable company data from loss
or corruption.
Robust Features Deliver Exceptional Performance Levels
Offering significant performance and value, both the Gateway 6400 and
7400 servers support up to two of Intel(R)'s fastest Pentium(R) III
processors, from 733MHz through 866MHz. The system's fast 133MHz front side
bus and PC133 ECC SDRAM memory deliver enhanced system reliability. Support
for high-performance Ultra160 SCSI disk drives and 64-bit PCI I/O technology
for advanced RAID controllers and other high-speed applications enable
companies to respond quickly to customer requests for information by reducing
delays in file access and document retrieval. Management of system security,
reliability and performance is handled by the robust HP(R) OpenView(TM)
ManageX Event software, which monitors the status of server operating
conditions such as processor and component temperatures, cooling fan
operations and voltage levels.
