Supermarket company to donate $10,000 to assist the Los Angeles Mission to
provide basic school supplies to low-income students
LOS ANGELES, Aug. 21 /PRNewswire/ -- Ralphs Grocery Company is helping
low-income, school-aged children living in downtown Los Angeles' Skid Row
area get ready for school. The supermarket company's charitable arm, The
Ralphs Fund, is making a $10,000 grant to the Los Angeles Mission to help
provide basic school supplies for Skid Row children.
Representatives of The Ralphs Fund will present the $10,000 donation at
the Los Angeles Mission's 9th Annual End of Summer Block Party on Saturday,
August 23 at 11:00 a.m. The Los Angeles Mission is located at 303 East 5th
Street (on the corner of 5th and Wall Streets), Los Angeles, CA 90013.
"Ralphs understands the importance of giving back to the communities
our stores serve. Our donation to the Los Angeles Mission is just one part
of our commitment to the community and our young people," said Mike
Donnelly, President of Ralphs. "We continue to focus our giving on
enhancing the opportunities for young people who are our future."
The donation will be used to provide backpacks filled with school
supplies that children would need as they return to school. Every child in
attendance at the Block Party will receive a free backpack.
Ralphs is also providing additional school supplies and peanut butter
and jelly ice cream treats for families attending the End of Summer Block
Party.
"The Los Angeles Mission will serve about 2,000 meals at the End of
Summer Block Party, which is part of the more than half a million meals
we'll provide this year to the homeless on Skid Row," said Herb Smith,
President of the Los Angeles Mission. "We are very grateful for the
generous gift from Ralphs that makes it possible to help so many people.
Not only that, but we are also pleased to share the new peanut butter and
jelly ice cream they brought for our guests."
Ralphs Grocery Company believes in being a good corporate citizen by
contributing to the diverse communities its stores serve. Last year, Ralphs
provided more than $10 million in cash and in-kind donations to
organizations focused on health, education, the fight against hunger, the
advancement of women and minorities, and developing our youth.
