Attendance of 2,000 Matches Last Year's Total; Conference Empowers Development
Teams to Create Better Software, Faster
RATIONAL USER CONFERENCE, LAKE BUENA VISTA, Fla., Aug. 22 /PRNewswire-
FirstCall/ -- Rational Software (Nasdaq: RATL) announced that approximately
2,000 people from around the world attended the Rational User Conference 2002
this week, which ended today in Lake Buena Vista, Fla.

The conference, with the theme "Freedom to Create," offered more than 200
technical sessions in 10 tracks addressing all stages of the development life
cycle. The sessions were led by Rational customers, engineers, industry
experts and partners, including IBM, Microsoft Corp. and Sun Microsystems Inc.
Approximately 2,000 attendees participated at this year's conference, matching
the attendance at last year's conference in Denver. This year, more than 20
percent of attendees were from outside the United States.
Rational CEO Mike Devlin delivered Monday's opening keynote presentation,
titled "Freedom to Create: Developing Imagination Into Innovation." Rational
President Tom Bogan hosted Tuesday's Customer Success Keynote, "Enabling
Innovation," which featured success stories from Empire Blue Cross Blue
Shield, CCC Information Services Inc., Merrill Lynch and Co. Inc. and Unisys
Corp., each sharing their experiences using Rational's solutions.
Conference participants enhanced their learning experience at the Rational
User Conference 2002 by attending Rational University training courses,
participating in hands-on workshops featuring Rational Suite(R) solutions and
the new Rational(R) XDE(TM) product line, as well as by utilizing the Rational
Developer Network(SM) (http://www.rational.net). The Rational Developer
Network also will offer track-specific technical information and feature
articles after the conference.
