Delegation Will Ride Futuristic Automated Mass Transit Vehicle
ST. PAUL, Minn., Aug. 22 /PRNewswire/ --
WHAT: A Japanese delegation from the Akita Prefecture Public Works and
Transportation Department, located in northern Japan, will visit
the Taxi 2000 SkyWeb Express, a system of three-passenger
vehicles that travels on a network of elevated guideways. The
delegation will ride the high profile mini-monorail, a
centerpiece of the Minnesota High Tech Association (MHTA) Wonders
of Technology exhibit at the 2003 State Fair. They will visit
the SkyWeb Express because of interest in its possible use in
Japan.
The exhibit features a single vehicle on 60 feet of track. The
public will ride the prototype vehicle every 15 minutes. The
innovative mass transit system is personal, convenient, safe,
energy efficient, environmentally friendly and less expensive
than competitive mass transit systems.
The SkyWeb Express Personal Rapid Transit (PRT) system was
conceived by retired University of Minnesota professor of
mechanical engineering J. Edward Anderson more than 20 years ago.
