LEXINGTON, Mass., Aug. 22 /PRNewswire-FirstCall/ -- Raytheon Company
(NYSE: RTN) announced that effective Sept. 1, 2003, Daniel L. Smith, 50, will
be appointed president of its Integrated Defense Systems (IDS) business unit
located in Tewksbury, Mass. Smith is currently vice president and deputy to
Charles E. Franklin, current IDS president.
"Dan Smith is a proven business leader who has been instrumental in
establishing IDS as a premier mission systems integrator through superior
performance, innovative solutions and total commitment to customer success,"
said William H. Swanson, Raytheon CEO and president. "I am delighted to have
someone of Dan's caliber ready to move IDS forward to continued success."
Smith joined Raytheon in 1996 to lead key programs in the Naval & Maritime
Integrated Systems business (N&MIS). Subsequently, he led business
development for N&MIS, before being named vice president and general manager
of N&MIS in 1999. Before joining Raytheon, Smith held a series of assignments
in GE and Lockheed Martin for 10 years. Smith also completed 20 years of
active and reserve service with the United States Navy. He has a BSBA and MBA
from Chapman University.
Smith succeeds Charles E. Franklin, 65, as part of a scheduled succession
plan. Franklin will continue to report to Swanson and move to an enterprise-
wide assignment.
