Micromuse Completes First Phase of Four-Part, Multi-Million Dollar Software
Upgrade for Telecom Leader
NEW YORK, TELECOM BUSINESS EXPO '99, Aug. 23 /PRNewswire/ -- Electric
Lightwave Inc. (Nasdaq: ELIX), a leading integrated communications provider,
and Micromuse Inc. (Nasdaq: MUSE), the leading provider of fault and
service-level management software, today announced the on-time completion of
Phase One of a four-phase rollout of Micromuse's Netcool(R) suite at Electric
Lightwave. The Netcool application will enable Electric Lightwave to bring
top-quality, Y2K-compliant services to market more quickly and efficiently.
The Netcool suite supports more than 120 off-the-shelf interfaces that
collect management data from a wide variety of systems and protocols. The
data is rapidly processed and filtered by an in-memory database. Netcool
allows operators to build views of services in real time, helping them manage
networks more efficiently. Because it is scalable and deploys rapidly, the
Netcool business model allows service providers to expand their networks as
their markets grow.
"The Netcool suite exemplifies the state-of-the-art in fault management
for transport, switching, and data infrastructures," said Gary Lang, director
of network operations for ELI. "By completing Phase One of this aggressive
rollout schedule on time, Micromuse has followed through on the promise of its
product and people. ELI is leveraging Netcool's leading technology to gain a
clear advantage over other communications companies with respect to bringing
new services to market."
The completion of Phase One marks the successful integration of the
Netcool application with numerous multivendor transmission and voice systems.
Phase Two is scheduled to be completed in several months. This phase will
feature the deployment of Netcool/Internet Service Monitors(TM) for
comprehensive management of an IP network, which includes Cisco Systems, Inc.
routers and Cascade Communications, Inc. switches. Phases Three and Four
target integration with OSS and trouble-ticketing systems and advanced,
customized event correlation functionality.
ELI operates SONET-based long-haul routes and ringed Metropolitan Area
Networks (MANs) designed to deliver high-speed, highly reliable
telecommunications services to customers at competitive prices. Netcool's
flexibility and ability to scale allows ELI to accelerate its introduction of
services and enables it to quickly scale its operations without service
interruption or degradation.
"Electric Lightwave has articulated a strong vision for growth and
leadership in the data and telecommunications industry," said Greg Brown,
chairman and chief executive officer of Micromuse. "By completing Phase One
in just a few weeks, we have demonstrated our ability to deliver yet another
robust, Y2K-compliant, service-level management solution on schedule. We are
extremely pleased to have achieved so much for ELI in such a short time. We
are also delighted to have the opportunity to provide even more functionality
and return on investment in the coming months."
