PLEASANTVILLE, N.Y., Aug. 23 /PRNewswire/ -- Jean B. Clifton has been
named Senior Vice President and Chief Financial Officer of The Reader's
Digest Association, Inc., it was announced today by Mary Berner, RDA's
President and Chief Executive Officer. Clifton will report to Berner and
will become a member of the company's Executive Committee.

As CFO, Clifton succeeds Michael S. Geltzeiler, who was named President
of RDA's School & Educational Services division in March 2007, and since
then has also served as the acting CFO.
Clifton joins RDA from Platinum Strategic Partners, L.L.C., an advisory
services and investment company. She spent 20 years with Journal Register
Company in Trenton, N.J., most recently serving as President and Chief
Operating Officer, from 2005 to 2006. Previously, she was Executive Vice
President, Chief Financial Officer and Treasurer of Journal Register
Company. She served on its Board of Directors since 1989.
Clifton managed all areas of finance and operations, and led mergers
and acquisitions as well as equity/capital market transactions. She helped
lead Journal Register Company's public offering in 1997, and played an
integral role in the acquisition and integration of the company's
operations in Europe, during which she was based in the United Kingdom for
two years. Clifton led dozens of M&A transactions as well as overseeing
plant consolidations and launches of new products and services, including
the company's Internet businesses.

Clifton began her career with the public accounting firm of Arthur
Young & Co. (a predecessor to Ernst & Young LLP), where she handled
accounting, auditing and a variety of public filings and IPOs, and was also
in the firm's Entrepreneurial Services Group.
In addition to her board membership at Journal Register Company,
Clifton has served as a member of the Board of Directors of the Newspaper
Association of America and the NAA Foundation Board, as well as a director
of several community organizations including the Lower Bucks Chapter of the
American Red Cross, and the Fresh Air Fund. She holds a B.B.A. in Business
Administration from the University of Michigan, Ann Arbor and is a
Certified Public Accountant.
