CHICAGO, Aug. 24 /PRNewswire/ -- W.W. Grainger, Inc. (NYSE: GWW), was
selected by CIO magazine as a winner in its 11th annual CIO-100 Awards
competition.
The program spotlights 100 companies in the U.S. which excel at the use of
information technology (IT) to enhance business relationships with suppliers
and customers.
Each company is profiled in the August 15th edition of CIO. The magazine,
with a circulation of 125,000 worldwide, is a leading bi-weekly publication
designed for chief information officers and other executives responsible for
information systems and technology.
According to the magazine the winners were selected from among Fortune's
top 1000 U.S. companies. Nationally, the candidates were equally divided
between finance, manufacturing, retail and service/other. The selection
committee, comprised of members of CIO's editorial staff and a panel of
28 leading academicians, consultants and analysts, reviewed companies which
demonstrated outstanding "value chain management." CIO Magazine defines value
chain as "the sequence of activities a company carries out to create products,
services and relationships with its constituents..."
"We are very pleased at being selected as a winner of a CIO-100 award,"
says Jim Ryan, Vice President, Information Services for Grainger. "We know
the importance of building relationships with suppliers and customers, and we
believe technology is fundamental to strengthening those partnerships."
According to the magazine, the winners have reinvented the way they do
business to take advantage of emerging technology. Information technology is
irrevocably changing the way companies do business. This program helps
highlight the companies who have flourished by forging solid bonds with their
constituents.
