DEERFIELD, Ill., Aug. 25 /PRNewswire/ -- Fort James Corporation today
announced changes to its management organization.

Ernst Haberli, Executive Vice President and Chief Financial Officer, now
assumes responsibility for corporate planning and strategy. He continues to
manage Fort James' Treasury, Investor Relations, Information Technology,
Corporate Development, Legal, Capital Process, and Environment, Safety and
Health functions. Haberli joined James River, a predecessor of Fort James, in
1996 as Senior Vice President, Strategy.
Gregory Stroh, formerly President, North American Tissue and Towel
Operations and Logistics, has been appointed President, North American Tissue
Operations and Technology. He assumes responsibility for the company's North
American Research and Development processes, which are located in Neenah,
Wisconsin. The company's North American towel and tissue mills now report
directly to Stroh. He joined Fort James in 1997 as President of the company's
Packaging business.
Finally, Joseph McGarr, formerly Senior Vice President -- Planning &
Strategy, has been named Senior Vice President and Controller. In his new
position, McGarr is responsible for all controller, tax, finance and audit
functions. He also retains supervision for the company's corporate
productivity programs.
McGarr joined James River, one of the predecessor companies of Fort James,
as director of Strategy, Consumer Products Business in 1982. He has since
served in a number of managerial and executive positions.
William A. Paterson, Senior Vice President and Controller, is retiring
from Fort James in early October.
