RALEIGH, N.C., Aug. 26 /PRNewswire-FirstCall/ -- Waste Industries USA,
Inc. (Nasdaq: WWIN), a regional, non-hazardous solid waste services company,
today announced the formation of a partnership arrangement with the North
Carolina State University Office of Waste Reduction and Recycling. The
program will be introduced at the North Carolina State University's home
football games this fall. "This alliance was brought about through the
efforts of many people and emphasizes the ongoing efforts of Waste Industries
to participate within the community to encourage recycling of cans and
bottles. Chuck Amato, head football coach at NC State University, brings this
program the focus it needs to raise the level of importance of recycling and
Waste Industries is pleased to be a part of it," said Jim W. Perry, President
and CEO of Waste Industries USA, Inc.
The "Chuck It" recycling program is the brainchild of Paul Mobley, a
sophomore Mechanical Engineering major from Raleigh, North Carolina. Sarah
Ketchem, Programs Manager from the North Carolina State University Office of
Waste Reduction and Recycling stated, "this program is one of the first of its
kind and we are excited about the potential. When Paul came up with the idea
we knew we had a winner. NC State has the potential to divert more than
50 tons of material from the landfill during a single football season."
Special "Chuck It " zones will be located throughout the parking lots and
outside the gates of Carter Finley Stadium. In addition, "Chuckwagons" will
cruise the parking lots of Raleigh's RBC Center prior to games collecting cans
and bottles from fans as they tailgate before NC State's WolfPack takes the
field. North Carolina State University student volunteers and Office of Waste
Reduction and Recycling workers staff the "Chuck It" Recycling program.
Special video announcements featuring Coach Chuck Amato and Waste Industries'
Jim Perry will remind Wolfpack fans to recycle. "When Coach Amato speaks our
fans listen," remarked Charlie Cobb, Associate Athletics Director. "We want
the 'Chuck It' Recycling Program to be a model for all other universities to
follow."
The North Carolina State University Office of Waste Reduction and
Recycling oversees solid waste and recycling services for the university and
last year diverted over 2,487 tons of material from area landfills.
Additional support for the "Chuck It" Recycling Program was provided through a
grant from the Wake County Environmental Services.
