-- Canadian Diva dispenses advice to Idol finalists in Las Vegas this
Friday --
TORONTO, Aug. 27 /PRNewswire/ - Celine Dion will be Idol-ized this Friday
by the stars of one of the most popular television series in Canadian TV
history. The four remaining finalists from Canadian Idol - the Canuck version
of the international smash hit TV format - will receive advice from their
Canadian compatriot when they meet Dion on the set of her new production
"A New Day" in Las Vegas.
A true "Canadian Idol," Ms. Dion will share her experience in becoming an
international superstar with the four Idol hopefuls, one of who will be
crowned the first Canadian Idol when the series concludes on Sept. 16 on
Canadian television network CTV. The finalists are Gary Beals, 20, Halifax,
Nova Scotia; Audrey de Montigny, 18, Ste. Julienne, Quebec; Billy Klippert,
25, Calgary, Alberta and Ryan Malcolm, 23, Kingston, Ontario.
"Canadian musical talent is unparalleled on the planet," said Ms. Dion.
"I'm thrilled to play my part in bringing Canada's next music superstar to the
world stage."
"Celine is a brilliant example of how a talented, young woman from Canada
can become an idol to millions of people around the world," said Susanne
Boyce, CTV President of Programming and Chair of the Media Group.
In addition to meeting with Dion - which will be taped for broadcast on
next Monday's episode of Canadian Idol - the four finalists will shoot
additional segments for the series in and around Las Vegas.
From the moment it premiered in June on CTV, Canadian Idol has been
Canada's most-watched show and is well on its way to becoming one of the
most-watched Canadian television programs of all time. The series, which
charts the search for Canada's next Shania Twain, Alanis Morissette, Avril
Lavigne or Bryan Adams, is one of the most talked-about items of discussion in
Canada and attracts daily television, radio and front-page newspaper coverage.
The winner will receive a recording contract with BMG Canada and the chance to
become Canada's next great musical star.
Indeed, Celine Dion, Canada's greatest musical export, is one of the most
successful recording artists of all time. The recipient of numerous Grammy,
Juno and Felix awards, Ms. Dion has sold more than 160 million records around
the world. Her new show "A New Day" is an unprecedented combination of
performance, passion and theatrical innovation. It has been playing to rave
reviews and sold-out shows at The Colosseum at Caesars Palace in Las Vegas.
