DRI - The Voice of the Defense Bar Plans Cutting-Edge Discussion of Complex
Topics at Annual Meeting
CHICAGO, Aug. 27 /PRNewswire/ -- More than 1,000 lawyers who are
members of DRI -- The Voice of the Defense Bar will meet in New Orleans
from October 22 - 26 for a pragmatic look at how complex litigation affects
businesses and individuals. It is the organization's 13th annual meeting.
Titled "Spice Up Your Practice in the Big Easy," the DRI meeting will
feature speakers such as former U.S. House Speaker Newt Gingrich,
journalists Juan Williams and Eleanor Clift, along with scores of prominent
legal profession leaders from the judiciary, law firm, and in-house counsel
sectors.
"Our Annual Meeting provides our members with the opportunity to ensure
that their practices maintain pace with all current litigation trends,
ranging from the latest in class action strategy to the short and long-term
legal implications of breaking events in the financial markets," said John
Martin, current President of DRI -- The Voice of the Defense Bar and a
partner with Thompson & Knight in Dallas.
DRI's Annual Meeting "will have speakers, panel discussions, or
workshops on virtually every legal issue in today's headlines, including
product liability, intellectual property, drug and medical liability,
commercial litigation and professional liability, among others," added Marc
E. Williams, President-Elect of DRI -- The Voice of the Defense Bar and a
partner at Huddleston Bolen, LLP in Huntington, West Virginia. Many of
these programs provide CLE (continuing legal education) credits as well.
Of particular importance, DRI Annual Meeting attendees will also
address "tangible, measurable ways by which this organization and its
members can continue to contribute to an efficient and effective legal
system so that companies and individuals are fairly and competently
represented in all litigation," according to John Kouris, DRI's Executive
Director.
"More and more, DRI has evolved as a major advocacy group with a
growing amicus program," added Kouris. "We stay away from political and
ideological positions, focusing instead on specific professional and legal
issues that have impact on the civil justice system. It is by providing
such responsible advocacy that we have truly become 'the voice of the
defense bar.'"
