VH1's 'Where Are They Now?: Spinal Tap' Catches up With Heavy Metal Legends In Newest Edition of Hit Series, Premiering Wednesday, September 6 At 11:00 P.M. (ET/PT)

All-New Episode Features Never-Before-Seen Footage From Classic Film
'This Is Spinal Tap' and Exclusive Interviews With Tap Rockers Nigel Tufnel,
David St. Hubbins and Derek Smalls,
Plus Mick Fleetwood, Jeanine Pettibone and Artie Fufkin

NEW YORK, Aug. 28 /PRNewswire/ -- Ever since Marty DeBergi's rockumentary
"This Is Spinal Tap" put Tap on the map, the band has been synonymous with
stuffed trousers, exploding drummers and heavy metal recycling. Two decades
later, Nigel Tufnel, David St. Hubbins and Derek Smalls are back. "Where Are
They Now?: Spinal Tap" catches up with rock's loudest band in the latest
edition of VH1's acclaimed series, premiering Wednesday, September 6 at 11:00
p.m. (ET/PT). "This is Spinal Tap" precedes this Where Are They Now? premiere
at 9:00 pm (ET/PT).
"Where Are They Now?: Spinal Tap" checks in with guitarist Tufnel
(Christopher Guest), singer St. Hubbins (Michael McKean) and bassist Smalls
(Harry Shearer), looking back at the band's beginnings, break-ups, reunions,
break-ups and reunions in never-before-seen footage and exclusive interviews.
Before recently reuniting again for a performance on VH1's "The List," the
band members have been more than busy, with Nigel becoming a junior
ichthyologist at the Aquarium of the Pacific, David in a quest to reconnect
with Mother Nature, and Derek back in school -- as a crossing guard and
classroom helper.
"Where Are They Now" also checks up on fill-in drummer Mick Fleetwood, who
has so far escaped the lethal curse that has befallen Tap's many
percussionists; St. Hubbins' girlfriend-turned-wife-turned-ex Jeanine
Pettibone (June Chadwick), now farming herbs for spiritual and medicinal
purposes, and Chicago record promo man Artie Fufkin (Paul Schaffer), who
currently promotes biologically-enhanced eggs in order to support two kids in
junior college.
For the first time in a decade, Spinal Tap is together again, recording,
touring and selling music through their own web site. What does the future
hold for the band? As St. Hubbins reveals, "We might die. But we won't go
away."
Director Rob Reiner's hit debut film, "This Is Spinal Tap" has been a
cultural phenomenon since its release in 1984. A riotous ersatz documentary
about aging British heavy-metal rockers on a calamitous tour of America, "This
Is Spinal Tap" spawned its own reality when the band "reunited" in 1991 to
release the album "Break Like the Wind," embark on real concert tour, and
return to the screen in "The Return of Spinal Tap." In one of rock's more
bizarre episodes, Spinal Tap once advertised for a drummer, and received 400
responses -- one of which was from Mick Fleetwood.
"This is Spinal Tap," the classic rockumentary Newsweek calls, "The
funniest movie ever made about rock and roll," was recently re-released in
theaters and on September 12 will become available on special edition DVD/VHS
by MGM Home Entertainment, in association with European film studio,
STUDIOCANAL.
"Where Are They Now?: Spinal Tap" is a production of VH1. Series
