McKINNEY, Texas, Aug. 28, 2006 /PRNewswire/ -- The U.S. Navy has
awarded Raytheon Company (NYSE: RTN) two contracts for Advanced Targeting
Forward-looking Infrared (ATFLIR) pod spares with a value of up to $21
million.
The ceiling-priced, sole-source contracts, awarded by the Navy
Inventory Control Program, represent an important aspect of mission support
for the Navy's targeting pod of record.
"While ATFLIR's mean time between failure (predicted) continues to be
the best among the top targeting pods -- up to 700 hours, the value of
having spares available in the hangar and at the depot level cannot be
underestimated," said Harry Constant, manager, Raytheon business
development for ATFLIR. "Having the right part in hand can mean all the
difference to an F/A-18 sortie being launched and our warfighters receiving
vital tactical and ISR (intelligence, surveillance and reconnaissance)
mission support."
One of the contracts, an $11.1 million award for 36 miscellaneous line
items, is an add-on to the existing ATFLIR FRP 4 (Full Rate Production)
contract. The other award, issued under a basic ordering agreement to
support ATFLIR depot level maintenance, is valued at $9.9 million for 600
consumable parts. All of the spares will be produced at Raytheon's
McKinney, Texas, location, and deliveries will begin in December 2007.
Raytheon Space and Airborne Systems (SAS) is currently working on Ku
band video data link upgrades to ATFLIR under a recently announced $10
million contract and continues to conduct flight test and evaluation of
infrared marker insertion into ATFLIR.
Raytheon SAS is the leading provider of sensor systems giving
warfighters the most accurate and timely information available for the

employees, SAS is headquartered in El Segundo, Calif., with additional
facilities in Goleta, Calif.; Forest, Miss.; Dallas, McKinney and Plano,
