"Today's report is a stark reminder of how the challenge of providing
access to affordable coverage should be the nation's top domestic priority.
"Meeting this challenge of providing access to affordable coverage
requires a collaborative effort between public and private entities coupled
with the regulatory flexibility that will allow health insurance plans to
offer more affordable products to purchasers and consumers.
"Health insurance plans have worked hard to offer a range of affordable
viable options to small businesses that have previously not been able to
offer coverage and individuals purchasing insurance on their own. In
addition, we are putting into practice proven cost-containment strategies
that allow employees and individuals to maintain coverage.
"We will continue to work with policymakers at the federal and state
level to develop strategies to meet the unique needs of diverse uninsured
populations."
