Starwood Announces Opening of Sheraton Pasadena Hotel

  Hotel Combines Old World European Ambiance With Southern Californian Charm

    WHITE PLAINS, N.Y., Aug. 30 /PRNewswire/ -- Starwood Hotels & Resorts
Worldwide, Inc. (NYSE: HOT) has announced the opening of the Sheraton Pasadena
Hotel, a beautifully-renovated hotel combining European ambiance with Southern
Californian charm.  Starwood made the announcement for the franchised property
today in conjunction with Clement Chen III, president of Pacific Hotel
Management, LLC, the ownership and management entity.  Conversion of the
former Holiday Inn took over eight months to complete at a cost of over
$4 million.
    The 317-room Sheraton Pasadena Hotel features 12,000 square feet of
meeting space and a 2,500-square-foot ballroom.  There are 29 Club Rooms and
10 "Smart Rooms," rooms designed for business travelers that feature work
desks equipped with ergonomic chairs, combination fax/copier/printer, CD
player and radio/alarm clocks.  For dining, the brand new Restaurant Soleil
provides a menu that features a combination of Mediterranean and California
cuisine.
    Guests are welcomed by a limestone fountain and granite steps leading to a
completely renovated hotel lobby.  Designed to reflect an Old World European
ambiance, the lobby features antique wrought iron chandeliers, decorative wood
moldings and an Italian marble floor.  The lobby evokes an image of an updated
gentlemen's club, with cherrywood paneling, oriental carpets and comfortable
overstuffed furniture.
    Located close to suburban Los Angeles, the Sheraton Pasadena is within
short driving distance of major area tourist attractions such as Beverly
Hills, Hollywood, Universal Studios, the Rose Bowl and the popular beaches of
Southern California.  It is adjacent to the Pasadena Convention Center and
only two blocks away from Pasadena's "Old Town."
    A "soft opening" of the hotel took place earlier this month, just in time
for the Democratic National Convention.  According to Ray Serafin, general
manager of the hotel, "The Sheraton Pasadena is ideally located in the
metropolitan Los Angeles area and is well positioned to serve business
conventions of all kinds, both large and small.  The hotel features large
meeting facilities and its close proximity to Los Angeles makes it well suited
for the business traveler."
    One of the most outstanding features of the new hotel will be Sheraton's
newly designed guestroom.  Dramatic new cherrywood headboards, cozy chairs and
oversized work areas are just some of the features in this renovation, the
latest in Sheraton's $750 million, three-year renovation program, designed to
enhance the brand in the U.S.
