Raytheon Awarded $11.2 million for More Tactical Control System Development Work

FALLS CHURCH, Va., Aug. 30 /PRNewswire/ -- Raytheon Company (NYSE: RTN)
has been awarded an $11.2 million contract modification for additional
development work on the Tactical Control System (TCS).
As a result of the modification to the basic TCS contract, Raytheon will
incorporate additional functionality related to Nothrop Grumman's Fire Scout
vertical takeoff-or-landing unmanned aerial vehicle (VTUAV) into the Block 2
TCS.
TCS is currently being developed as a single software product for the
ground control architecture of Department of Defense unmanned aerial vehicle
(UAV) programs. The TCS program was formally established in September 1997.
Under the current development program, TCS is being designed to provide
command and control for most Army, Navy, Air Force and Allied tactical and
medium endurance UAVs and their sensor payloads from a single ground station.
TCS is also being designed to disseminate sensor and surveillance data to
other U.S. and Allied command, control, communications, computers and
intelligence (C4I) systems. TCS is land-mobile and can be configured for
shipboard integration.
TCS was introduced to the public July 30 at a UAV flight demonstration
sponsored by the Association for Unmanned Vehicles Systems International
(AUVSI) and Naval Air Systems Command. During this demonstration, TCS
downloaded data from the Predator sensors and transmitted that data to a large
display screen for public viewing.
On August 16 and 17, TCS once again successfully demonstrated its ability
to control a Predator UAV and receive surveillance data during a Joint Forces
Exercise. During the exercise, the TCS unit transmitted near-real-time strike
information from the Predator UAV to the USS Mount Whitney.
With headquarters in Lexington, Mass., Raytheon Company is a global
technology leader in defense, government and commercial electronics, and
business and special mission aircraft.

Editor's note: TCS product information and photos are available upon
request.
