Worldwide Flight Services Awarded America West Passenger and Ramp Contract At Fort Lauderdale Airport

FORT LAUDERDALE, Fla., Aug. 31 /PRNewswire/ -- Worldwide Flight Services,
formerly known as AMR Services, was selected by America West to provide
passenger and ramp services for the airline's Fort Lauderdale Airport (FLL)
operations in Florida. Beginning in October, Worldwide will provide service
to two daily flights -- one to Las Vegas (LAS) and the other, a new route for
America West, to Phoenix (PHX).
Worldwide will employ 25 individuals of its existing Fort Lauderdale
operations to handle the new business. Currently, Worldwide provides
passenger and ramp services to American Airlines, Finnair and American Eagle.
Worldwide also provides services for America West at five other airports
including Burbank, Los Angeles and Long Beach, California; as well as Denver
and Colorado Springs, Colorado. Contracts range from aircraft de-icing and
snow removal to baggage handling and equipment maintenance services.
America West will offer the only daily nonstop service between Phoenix and
Fort Lauderdale, and will utilize a 150-seat A320 aircraft for both of its
flights.
"Worldwide has provided excellent service for America West and our
customers in other markets, and we look forward to bringing this same high
level of performance to our Ft. Lauderdale operations," said Mark Gurney,
America West's Vice President for Customer Service.
"Expanding services to our existing customers is a top priority with
Worldwide," according to the company's Senior Vice President of Marketing,
John Vittas. "We are proud of our relationship with America West, which is
seeing amazing growth, and we intend to do our very best to help support that
growth."
