Raytheon Wins $26 Million U.S. Air Force AN/ALR-69 Upgrade Program

GOLETA, Calif., Aug. 31 /PRNewswire/ -- Raytheon Company (NYSE: RTN) has
been competitively selected for the AN/ALR-69 Upgrade program and awarded a
$26 million contract to design, develop, test, manufacture and integrate a
radar warning receiver subsystem to be installed initially on board U.S. Air
Force C-130 aircraft.
Raytheon will engineer, manufacture and develop a receiver subsystem that
will provide threat detection, identification and situation awareness to Air
Force pilots. The basic AN/ALR-69 Upgrade program calls for the development
of three prototype units and five pre-production units to be used for flight
testing on C-130 and F-16 aircraft. The program also includes optional
increments for incorporating geo-location, improved azimuth accuracy, and
determination of specific emitter identification of detected threats. The new
system exploits modern component technology requiring less volume than the
existing AN/ALR-69 radar warning receiver, while providing greatly enhanced
situational awareness to the aircrew. Production options beginning in 2004
could extend the program beyond 2010.
The award was received from the U.S. Air Force Air Material Command's
Warner Robins Air Logistics Center, Robins Air Force Base, Ga.
The new AN/ALR-69 design calls for extreme versatility, allowing for
affordable upgrade/replacement of existing radar warning receiver systems in
the U.S. Air Force inventory and potentially Foreign Military Sales (FMS)
inventory. Initially, the AN/ALR-69 will be integrated into existing Air
Force Special Operation Command C-130 aircraft, with potential future
integration into F-16 and A-10 platforms. Raytheon's experience producing
radar warning receivers stems from its ongoing program producing the AN/ALR-
67(V)3 for U.S. Navy F/A-18E/F aircraft.
With headquarters in Lexington, Mass., Raytheon Company is a global
technology leader in defense, government, and commercial electronics, and
business and special mission aircraft.
