LAS VEGAS, Aug. 31 /PRNewswire-FirstCall/ -- Southwest Gas Corporation
(NYSE: SWX) has filed a request with the Arizona Corporation Commission
(Commission) to increase its authorized operating revenues by $50.2 million
or 4.9 percent. The request is due primarily to an increase in the
company's fixed operating costs. Southwest has also proposed a rate
structure that would encourage energy-efficiency efforts, as well as remove
weather-related volatility from customer bills.
If approved by the Commission, an average residential bill of $50.78
for 28 therms would increase by $3.86 to $54.64. Southwest has asked the
Commission that rates be implemented October 1, 2008. It has been nearly
three years since the company filed its last general rate case.
Southwest Gas serves more than 958,000 customers in Arizona.
