MOUNTAIN VIEW, Calif., Sept. 1 /PRNewswire/ -- Aviron (Nasdaq: AVIR) today
announced John D. Bluth has been named senior manager, corporate
communications. In his new role, Mr. Bluth is responsible for leading public
relations and investor relations activities at Aviron, and providing
communications support to the human resources and FluMist(TM) marketing teams.
Previously, Mr. Bluth was Aviron's lead contact as an account supervisor
with Fleishman-Hillard, an international public relations agency. In
recognition of its communications achievements, Aviron and Mr. Bluth's team at
Fleishman-Hillard received the 1998 Creativity in Public Relations Award
(CIPRA) in biotechnology from Inside PR and the 1998 Big Apple Award for
excellence in health care communications from the New York Chapter of the
Public Relations Society of America (PRSA).
At Fleishman-Hillard, Mr. Bluth also helped to build the firm's West Coast
healthcare and biotechnology practices while providing public relations and
investor relations counsel to companies such as CV Therapeutics, Guidant,
Ligand, Alza, Scios, Incyte, OnHealth.com and Gazoontite.com. Before joining
Fleishman-Hillard, Mr. Bluth was a senior account executive at Edelman Public
Relations in New York.
Mr. Bluth earned a bachelors degree in Biological Sciences from Cornell
University.
