Technology Scholarships Help Cultivate Homegrown Innovation

Minnesota High Technology Foundation and Minnesota Research Fund Join Together
    to Sponsor Student Innovator Scholarships at the State Fair Wonders of
                              Technology Exhibit

    MINNEAPOLIS, Sept. 1 /PRNewswire/ -- Minnesota Research Fund (formerly
SOTA TEC Fund) and the Minnesota High Technology Foundation are proud to
sponsor two new "Student Innovator" scholarships to be introduced at the
Wonders of Technology at the Minnesota State Fair and awarded at the Minnesota
Tekne Awards.
    At the Wonders of Technology VIP Reception held on Monday, August 23, more
than $5,000 was raised from silent auction gifts and bids to support the new
scholarships.
    "The Minnesota High Technology Foundation is proud to co-sponsor these
outstanding new scholarships," said Kate Rubin, president of the Minnesota
High Tech Association and board member of the Minnesota High Technology
Foundation.  "Our economic growth and prosperity depends upon innovation and
entrepreneurship.  These scholarships will help prepare Minnesota's next
generation of innovators." Jerry Okerman, president of Minnesota Research Fund
expressed delight regarding the establishment of this joint scholarship
program and looks forward to more successful fund raising to benefit "student
and faculty innovators" in the future.
    An industry scholarship committee will award two student scholarships of
$2,000 each -- one for a graduating high school student and one for an
undergraduate college student.  The scholarship must be used towards tuition
at a public or private Minnesota institution.
    Scholarship recipients will be recognized at the Minnesota Tekne Awards on
November 9, 2004.  The Tekne Awards honor companies, individuals and
innovations that positively impact Minnesota's technology-based economy.  The
award ceremony will serve as an excellent venue for scholarship recipients to
network with leading Minnesota innovators.
