Signet Laboratories Adds Two Key Executives

   Pioneer in evidence-based medicine expands production, manufacturing and
                          development leadership team

    DEDHAM, Mass., Sept. 1 /PRNewswire/ -- As part of a continuing expansion of
its executive team, Signet Laboratories, Inc., a pioneer in evidence-based
medicine (EviMed), today announced the addition of Dr. Peggy Taylor as Vice
President, Production and Development, and Mr. Arnold R. Kana as Director,
Production and Manufacturing.
    Dr. Taylor will assume strategic and tactical leadership of Signet's GMP
facility, its Production and Development team, and Manufacturing and Shipping
team.
    Mr. Kana will direct Quality Assurance/Quality Control for Signet's
Production and Manufacturing group. He will report to Dr. Taylor, and will
coordinate with Signet's Marketing group on customer and product technical
support and sales.
    Dr. Taylor joins Signet following a seven-year tenure with Sequitur, Inc.
(later acquired by Invitrogen Corporation), where she established and led the
company's research program, helping to grow the company into a major player in
the functional genomics market. Beginning as the second full-time employee of
Sequitur, Dr. Taylor held a number of key leadership posts, including VP of
Research and VP of Collaborative Research. Prior to Sequitur, Dr. Taylor served
as an NIH Post-Doctoral Fellow at Harvard University, after obtaining her Ph.D.
in Cell Biology at Harvard in 1996.
    Mr. Kana comes to Signet after a long career in quality assurance/quality
control, operations, and reagent research and development. Prior to joining the
company, Mr. Kana served as Senior Quality Engineer for Abbott Laboratories
Medisense Products in Bedford, Massachusetts, and also as Manager of Quality
and Implementation at Genome Therapeutics Corp., in Waltham, where he managed
the QC core group, and was responsible for its $10 million annual budget. Mr.
Kana also held a number of scientific posts ranging from Biochemical Engineer
at Genome Therapeutics, to Technical Support Scientist, at Dade Behring in
Westwood, Massachusetts, both following his experience as a Research Technician
at Mass General Hospital in Boston. Mr. Kana received his Master's Degree in
Biology at Boston University in 1989.
