PORTLAND, Ore., Sept. 2 /PRNewswire-FirstCall/ -- Fred Meyer Jewelers has
launched its own online storefront at http://www.fredmeyerjewelers.com and
http://www.littmanjewelers.com selling all fine jewelry categories, including wedding
sets, diamonds, gemstones, gold, fashion jewelry, and watches.
The Fred Meyer Jewelers website is a new retail arm of an already very
successful business that is the fourth largest fine jeweler in the United
States. Fred Meyer Jewelers, Inc. is a division of The Kroger Co. (NYSE: KR)
and has 439 fine jewelry stores coast-to-coast in 38 states operating under
the names Fred Meyer Jewelers, Littman Jewelers, and Barclay Jewelers.
Included are stand-alone units in malls and shops inside the multidepartment
stores of Fred Meyer Stores, another division of Kroger. The new online
storefront also can be accessed at http://www.kroger.com through a link on the Kroger
home page.
"We expect this online site to supplement our store sales," Ed Dayoob,
president of Fred Meyer Jewelers, said. "We also expect it to attract many
new customers who will not only shop online, but also become new store
clients, as well."
Not only does the new Fred Meyer Jewelers online storefront offer
customers a terrific assortment of merchandise, it also provides the same
warranties and benefits found at traditional storefronts.
"Our online business is very different from those purely online jewelry
businesses of the past that disappeared as the 'dot-com' world imploded,"
Dayoob said. "They did not have the physical store infrastructure and huge
buying power behind them that we have at Fred Meyer Jewelers. The existing
bricks-and-mortar of our business gives us immediate legitimacy and strength
in the online business world."
