Project Technology Brings Model Driven Architecture to the Real-Time And Embedded Market

Leading Developer of UML Modeling Tools Advocates New Industry Standards To
             Ensure Application Interoperability and Portability

BOSTON, Sept. 4 /PRNewswire/ -- Embedded Systems Conference (Booth #1017)
-- Project Technology, Inc., a leader in executable UML(TM) modeling tools,
today announced its support of the Model Driven Architecture(TM) (MDA(TM))
standards being established by the Object Management Group (OMG). By
embracing MDA, Project Technology underscores its long-standing commitment to
the global adoption of industry standards for interoperability and application
portability. It also enables the company's new and existing customers to
develop applications independent of platform design, ensuring application
flexibility even as new platforms emerge.
"As an early adopter of MDA, Project Technology effectively addresses the
integration challenges of today's real-time and embedded systems developers by
delivering an architecture that assures portability, cross-platform
interoperability, platform independence, domain specificity and increased
productivity," said Richard Soley, CEO and Chairman of the OMG.
Project Technology's established product line is based on the same
principles as the MDA standards and provides software developers with a
complete toolset for balancing the requirements of application development.
With the BridgePoint(R) Modeling Suite, companies preserve their intellectual
property by creating Platform Independent Models (PIMs) in UML and Object
Action Language(TM) (OAL(TM)). A fundamental component of MDA, the PIM can be
simulated and verified prior to deployment on any target, allowing developers
to recover valuable time from debugging the final code.
"Our customers have long benefited from a model-driven approach to system
development," said Shaun Greener, Director of Marketing at Project Technology.
"By providing standards for modeled systems, the OMG's Model Driven
Architecture initiative represents a giant step forward for the industry as a
whole and promises significant benefits for embedded systems developers."
Once the models are completed, a DesignPoint(R) model compiler generates
code for any target. The model compiler implements an MDA approach by
allowing platform-specific information supplied to the model compiler to
streamline translation of the PIM into code. The compiler translates the
user-customizable PIM to code by combining code templates with information
from the PIM, such as classes and state names, data types, and OAL. The same
application can be compiled to multiple targets without affecting the IP of
the PIM. At a minimum, a model compiler will automatically generate reliable
code at a rate of 3000 lines per minute
The OMG, a not-for-profit software standards consortium, is dedicated to
producing and maintaining specifications for interoperable enterprise
applications. MDA leverages the OMG's established modeling standards
including the Unified Modeling Language (UML) and XML Metadata Interchange(TM)
(XMI(TM)), the standard for storing and exchanging models using XML, to
provide an open, vendor-neutral approach to the challenge of interoperability.
