BOSTON, EMBEDDED SYSTEMS CONFERENCE, Sept. 4 /PRNewswire/ -- Metrowerks, a
Motorola Company, has released the newest version of development tools
supporting PowerPC microprocessors. The product, CodeWarrior for PowerPC
Embedded Systems, Version 6.0, provides a complete development environment for
creating and testing software targeted for PowerPC microprocessors. New
features that increase a developer's productivity include an enhanced
debugging environment, a Flash program utility, and automatic regression
testing capability.
"The newest version of CodeWarrior for PowerPC allows our customers to
realize the full potential of the PowerPC processor, and demonstrates
Metrowerks' commitment to provide the highest level of support for this
processor family," stated John Smolucha, vice president of marketing,
Metrowerks. "The CodeWarrior Integrated Development Environment enables
developers to manage the complexity of the PowerPC architecture, freeing
developers to focus on specific project requirements."
With Version 6.0, Metrowerks has enhanced the command-line debugger and
has added support for the high-performance emulation probes from Agilent
Technologies, the E5900A and E5900B. Both the command-line debugger and the
emulation probe support bring significant performance gains to developers'
debugging environment. Support for the emulation probes provides Metrowerks
customers with a true, signal-to-source solution.
To significantly decrease the time a developer must spend on the debugging
process, CodeWarrior for PowerPC includes Tcl-scripting that allows the
developer to run test scripts from the command line. This capability allows
for automatic regression testing, helping developers write more stable code
and decreasing time required to complete the project. Also included in
Version 6.0 is full Flash program capability for a number of supported
commercial development boards. This utility saves time and gives developers
the ability to download to flash memory, reducing multiple downloads to
volatile RAM.
Continuing Metrowerks' commitment to provide customers with an open
architecture, CodeWarrior for PowerPC, Version 6 includes a kernel awareness
plug-in interface that allows developers to debug applications on many popular
commercial RTOSes, including ATI Nucleus, MQX Precise, and Lineo RTXC.
The PowerPC processor is designed to meet the requirements of a range of
industries, from high performance desktop to networking and communications to
automotive. CodeWarrior for PowerPC, Version 6 supports this broad range of
PowerPC processors with development tools that address the many industries and
their diverse requirements. Supported PowerPC processors include the Motorola
MPC8255, MPC8245, PPC7410, PPC745, PPC750, PPC755, and, beginning in 4Q2001,
the MGT5100 and 7450.
