MicroSense to Review Current Development Status of Pushita(TM) - An Innovative
                      Biological Marker Detection System

ST. LOUIS, Sept. 4 /PRNewswire/ -- MicroSense is a privately held,
development stage, medical device company founded in 1997 for the purpose of
developing a line of micro-invasive monitoring instruments for the clinical
detection of multiple biochemical substances in the interstitial fluid
("ISF"). MicroSense is developing as the first application of the technology
the detection of glucose in diabetics. The Company has completed the initial
design of the optical glucose sensor that demonstrates the repeated ability to
take linear measurements over the entire clinical range. Over 40 patient data
sets have been measured with Pushita(TM), demonstrating high correlation with
currently available blood glucose meters.
The Pushita(TM) instrument is a painless and blood free portable
self-monitoring device with a disposable sensor. In April of 2000, the Company
concluded the chemistry design of the sensor and demonstrated the linear
measurement of glucose for the physiological range as specified by the FDA.
The Company's technology has been awarded protection under 2 U.S. Patents.
This platform holds potential for application not only to glucose, but also to
substances and compounds in other major medical markets. Management has
identified several of these markets including: cardiovascular disease, kidney
disease, and clinical depression.
Diabetes afflicts more than 100 million people worldwide, and the World
Health Organization (WHO) estimates that number will skyrocket to 300 million
by 2025. Diabetes is the leading cause of kidney failure, adult blindness,
non-traumatic amputations, and nerve damage. Diabetes accounts for more than
$105 billion of annual U.S. health-care costs and accounts for 25% of all
Medicare dollars. Diabetics in the U.S. are estimated to spend over
$3.5 billion on glucose monitoring products with annual growth rates of
16-19%. Recent market research indicates that U.S. sales of diabetic products
will reach $5.6 billion. Although virtually all patients are advised to
monitor their glucose levels three or more times per day, less than 20% of
those diagnosed follow the prescribed regimen.
