Siemens and Sigaba Partner to Bring Secure Messaging Solution to Healthcare

Encrypted Messaging Service Will Improve Workflow and Speed Communication
Between Hospitals, Community Physicians, and Patients

MALVERN, Pa., and SAN MATEO, Calif., Sept. 5 /PRNewswire-FirstCall/ --
Siemens Medical Solutions, one of the world's largest suppliers of healthcare
information technology solutions and medical equipment, has partnered with
Sigaba, a leading provider of secure e-mail and statement presentment
technology, to introduce a secure e-mail solution to the healthcare industry.
By partnering with Sigaba and applying its existing secure e-mail and
statements products to the healthcare community, Siemens will be able to offer
hospitals and community physician practices an easy, affordable solution that
will secure e-mail communications to partners, departments and patients. These
communications will be sent via open networks, providing immediate access to
vital patient data, while streamlining the revenue cycle.
In addition, the new offering will also assist users in meeting emerging
Health Insurance Portability and Accountability Act (HIPAA) requirements while
leveraging the use of their existing e-mail client.
This secure e-mail service will allow any type of document, such as
laboratory and radiology reports or patient billing statements, to be
delivered to any recipient via encrypted e-mail without the need for
additional software. With this combined technology, users can access secure
messages from a desktop, and access can be based on organization-wide
policies. Emails can be sent via any valid e-mail address.
Siemens will offer Sigaba's entire range of secure messaging solutions for
healthcare through its e.Health portfolio of services. These solutions will
include:

     * A secure e-mail document delivery service allowing documents to be
sent to recipients via encrypted e-mail. Layering Sigaba's encryption
on Siemens technology, Siemens will provide an inexpensive, efficient
way for hospitals, large clinics, regional laboratories and health
plans to push confidential documents across the Internet to physicians
        and patients.
     * A secure e-mail plug-in allowing individual users to speed
communications by sending and forwarding secure e-mail. It will allow
an individual user within a hospital, physician practice or other
healthcare organization to securely send an encrypted e-mail message
to other physicians, patients, or outside business partners with any
        known e-mail address.
     * A secure e-mail server which will enable a healthcare organization to
manage its own secure e-mail policy for all e-mail accounts within
that organization. The product administers encryption rules to reduce
the risk of unsecured e-mail messages.

"The Siemens solution is just what the doctor ordered: a simple, scalable,
easy-to-use, yet rock-solid secure communications approach for the healthcare
community," said John Ferraro, president and COO of Sigaba. "With HIPAA
privacy and security regulations pending, this relationship with Siemens is
perfectly timed to help us meet the large demand for this type of solution in
the healthcare industry."
"We will now be able to provide a full range of robust secure messaging
products to help our customers connect to their stakeholders and aid in HIPAA
adoption," said Jon Zimmerman, vice president of e.Health, Siemens Medical
Solutions Health Services Corporation. "These product offerings can be used
by all parties in healthcare: from the largest hospital, to the smallest
physician practice, and on to the patient."
The Siemens solution enables users to continue using existing systems,
while adding a security layer for encryption and authentication choices. The
solution also supports any type of authentication at any strength, leaving it
flexible for multiple business needs.
Sigaba is focused on securing data in motion for the enterprise market.
