STAMFORD, Conn., Sept. 5 /PRNewswire/ -- Temple Sinai invites the
community to light 3000 memorial candles at a pre-dawn ceremony on September
11th. The program, beginning at 5:20 in the morning, will feature the lighting
of one candle for each victim of the terrorist acts that occurred in
Pennsylvania, New York, and Washington, D.C. two years ago. The 45-minute
ceremony will take place on the lawn in Temple Sinai's back parking lot at 458
Lakeside Drive, Stamford, CT.
According to the Temple Sinai's Interim Rabbi Marc Disick, "We seek to
honor those Americans who so senselessly died two years ago, and to
memorialize the innocent men, women, and children all over the world who have
lost their lives to terrorism."
The rabbi, joined by Cantor Cathy Lawrence, will lead participants in a
short liturgy including music and psalms. Next, an honor guard will present
the flag. The service will conclude with the communal candle lighting of the
3000 candles, which will spell out the words, We Remember.
Disick states that the candle lighting provides an opportunity for members
of the community to "reach in all directions -- upward, toward God, outward to
each other, and inward to themselves" as they connect with those whose lives
have been lost or disrupted by terrorism. He believes that the Temple is a
natural place for members of the community to come together when world events
challenge our faith.
Temple Sinai is a Reform Jewish Congregation. It was founded in 1954 and
over the past 49 years has established an extraordinary record of social
activism, worship and education.
