PITTSBURGH, PA UNITED STATES
    PITTSBURGH, Sept. 5 /PRNewswire-FirstCall/ -- Tollgrade Communications,
Inc. (Nasdaq: TLGD), a leading supplier of network service assurance
products for the global cable and telecom industries, announced today that
the previously disclosed pilot deployment of Tollgrade's recently acquired
test system technology has been successfully completed at Romtelecom, the
only fixed line carrier in Romania. The Line Test System Controller (LTSC)
Operation Support System (OSS) and NxTest hardware, technology included in
Tollgrade's acquisition of the Emerson Line Test System business unit in
February 2006, were deployed and accepted by Romtelecom. This acceptance
completes the initial part of a multi-phase, network-wide contract with
Romtelecom. At the completion of the contract, it is expected that
Tollgrade's LTSC and NxTest products will be deployed to test voice
services and to pre- qualify loops for DSL service for approximately 3.5
million Romtelecom customers. This project, valued at nearly $4.5 million,
is expected to be fully implemented during the next six months.

"The Romtelecom assignment is Tollgrade's first wide-scale telephony
test system deployment in eastern Europe," said Mark B. Peterson, President
and CEO of Tollgrade. "We are pleased to be a part of Romtelecom's
increased emphasis on improving operational efficiency and introducing new
services to their own end customers," he added. This project is the third
country-wide deployment of Tollgrade products during the last 18 months.
Separately, and as expected, Telkom South Africa has expanded its
broadband footprint, and through its in-country supplier TeleSciences (Pty)
Ltd, will further deploy Tollgrade's LoopCare(TM) Test Operations Support
System (OSS) and the DigiTest(R) EDGE(R) broadband test platform. This
follow-on project represents continuing implementation of a previously
announced project that began in September 2005 to provide subscribers in
South Africa with comprehensive testing for DSL services.
"The deployment of our broadband test solutions in South Africa is
continuing as its countrywide DSL roll-out expands. Both of these projects
represent our recent successes in developing an expanded international
customer base," added Peterson.
The Company expects to make certain product shipments under these
projects by September 30, 2006. However, it is not possible to determine
the extent of revenue recognition from these projects in the third quarter
of 2006, which depends on the status of customer's installation and certain
acceptance factors. These determinations can have a significant effect on
actual third quarter 2006 results including the amount of revenue
recognition in relation to these projects.
