Clinical Use of OxiFirst(TM) Fetal Oxygen Monitoring System to be Topic of
Six Federation-Sponsored Educational Sessions
WASHINGTON, Sept. 6 /PRNewswire/ -- Mallinckrodt's OxiFirst(TM) fetal
oxygen monitoring system will be the featured topic in six educational
sessions at the International Federation of Gynecology and Obstetrics (FIGO)
XIV World Congress, being held here. The OxiFirst system, available worldwide,
is the first solution designed to continuously measure the oxygenation of a
fetus during labor and delivery.
The educational sessions and clinical paper presentations encompass fetal
oxygen monitoring research conducted by clinicians and medical facilities
worldwide. All sessions will be held on Wednesday, September 3, at the
Washington Convention Center.
"In the three months since OxiFirst received U.S. FDA clearance, fetal
oxygen monitoring has become somewhat of a hot topic in the obstetric
community," says Debra Reisenthel, vice president and general manager of
Mallinckrodt's Healthy Mother and Baby Division. "These sessions will help
enlighten clinicians from around the world about the important role this new
monitoring paradigm may have in obstetrical care."
All presentations are free to show registrants. Information is also
available through the Mallinckrodt Healthy Mother and Baby website at
http://www.healthymotherandbaby.com or at the Mallinckrodt Booth #221.

About Fetal Oxygen Monitoring
The OxiFirst Fetal Oxygen Monitoring System, enables obstetricians,
midwives and nurses to directly measure the oxygenation of a fetus during
labor and delivery. The technology has been called the first major
breakthrough in clinical obstetrics since electronic fetal heart rate
monitoring was introduced in the 1960s and '70s.
Clinical studies have demonstrated that the OxiFirst System, used with
fetal heart rate monitoring, provides valuable information about the baby's
oxygen status. This additional information enables the obstetrician, midwife
and parents to decide whether labor can progress safely through non-reassuring
fetal heart rate episodes or if an intervention is indicated.
Mallinckrodt Healthy Mother and Baby Division
The introduction of fetal oxygen monitoring in the United States also
marked the creation of a new strategic business unit - Mallinckrodt's Healthy
Mother and Baby Division. Meeting the unique healthcare needs of mothers and
their children during the 21 months from conception to baby's first birthday
is the mission of this new division. The Healthy Mother and Baby Division
will bring advanced technologies, like fetal oxygen monitoring, to market and
will provide education and information to parents and clinicians around the
world via the Healthy Mother and Baby website: http://www.healthymotherandbaby.com.
