SINGAPORE, Sept. 6 /PRNewswire/ -- Platts today released its annual
2006 Top 250 Global Energy Companies rankings, recognizing the industry's
top-performing companies around the world. The list, led by Exxon Mobil
Corporation, was unveiled at the Platts Top 250 Global Energy Companies
Asia/Pacific Rim Region Awards Dinner, sponsored by Allegro, Energy City
Qatar and LIM. Mr. Li Huaiqi, Secretary to the Board of Petrochina Co. Ltd,
the Platts Top 250's #1 energy company in Asia for five years running,
presented the keynote address at the awards dinner.
The Platts Top 250 is a global survey that measures financial
performance by examining each company's assets, revenues, profits, and
return on invested capital. All companies ranked have assets greater than
(U.S.) $2 billion. The rankings are published on the Platts Web site at
http://www.top250.platts.com and in a special advertising section to be published
in the December 11th issue of BusinessWeek magazine.
"While we're not surprised to see integrated oil and gas (IOG)
companies continue to hold the top positions on the list, it's important to
recognize the important contributions that each of the 250 companies are
making to the industry and the world," said Victoria Chu Pao, President of
Platts. "The innovation and tremendous business performance showcased by
these companies deserve recognition."
Theo Mullen, managing editor of Platts Megawatt Daily publication and
architect of the Platts Top 250 rankings, concurs, "Of the top 20 companies
ranked, 16 are integrated oil and gas companies (IOGs)." As oil prices
remain high, the financials tell the story: The 32 IOGs in the Top 250
claim average individual company assets of $58 billion (up from an average
of $53 billion in 2005), average annual revenues of nearly $68 billion, and
profits of $6.9 billion (versus 2005's average of $5.3 billion). The
combined annual revenue for IOGs alone was just over $2.16 trillion. "No
other energy industry segment can match those numbers," Mullen noted.
