DALLAS, Sept. 7 /PRNewswire/ -- Piranha, Inc. (OTC Bulletin Board: BYTE),
an innovator in data compression solutions, today announced the appointment of
internationally known technologist and data compression expert, Dr. Xiaolin Wu
to the newly created position of Director, Research and Development.
"Dr. Wu will help advance Piranha science to greater levels," said Carey
Lotzer, Chief Science Officer of Piranha, Inc. "Dr. Wu is a tremendous
visionary and will bring a wealth of knowledge and experience to the Piranha
team."
Dr. Wu received his Ph.D. in Computer Science in 1988 from the University
of Calgary, Canada and has served as Professor of Computer Science, University
of Western Ontario, Canada since July 1989. Dr. Wu previously served as
Visiting Scientist for Microsoft Research in Redmond, Washington and has
served as a committee member of the IEEE Data Compression Conference as well
as technical expert of the Working Group on "Coding of Audio, Picture,
Multimedia and Hypermedia Information" of the International Standard
Organization (ISO). Additionally, Dr. Wu has served on countless other
committees and working groups in the research and professional community.
Dr. Wu has received numerous awards including Distinguished Research
Professor at the University of Western Ontario, and was a member of the Emmy
Award winning JPEG Engineering Group in 1996. Dr. Wu has over 94 papers in
the field of graphics/visualization and image/multimedia processing and has
co-authored a number of patents.
