MOUNTAIN VIEW, Calif., Sept. 7 /PRNewswire/ -- Aviron (Nasdaq: AVIR) today
announced that Luc Hermans has been named vice president and UK site director,
responsible for overseeing operations in the United Kingdom.
Mr. Hermans will direct daily operations in the UK and will supervise the
design and planned construction of a new FluMist(TM) manufacturing facility at
Aviron's UK site. He will report to Ed Arcuri, Ph.D., senior vice president,
operations.
Prior to joining Aviron, Mr. Hermans spent 17 years at SmithKline Beecham
Biologicals (SBB), a division of GlaxoSmithKline, in increasingly responsible
development and operations positions. For the last six years, he served as
assistant director of manufacturing, responsible for all bulk polysaccharide
and lyme vaccine production at SBB. Mr. Hermans holds a degree from the
University of Brussels.

important to Aviron's global operations as we continue to expand our
FluMist(TM) manufacturing capacity," said Arcuri.
